KYTV Then |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
KYTV's Night Desk was the most popular news program in town during the 1960's. Part of its success was due to the personable, well-known announcers who were the Night Desk crew. They included Larry Dixon with the news, Chuck Hesington with the sports, and Fran Uhlis with the weather. In those days, the station had station announcers such as this trio who did the live programming and commercial work as well. |

Hank Herman did the Six O'clock News during much of the 1960s. Hank also was a member of the station's continuity department. Announcers in those years only read the news and did not get involved in writing it. (Notice the fancy set...the same gray curtains were used for everything.)
Announcers in those days did everything. Dave Nye, doing a commercial during the High Noon program, also read the news. Notice the tractor, part of another commercial. To the left is a flip board, the way still graphics were put on the air in the early days of TV.
Loyd Evans (below) was the station's farm director, the MC of the High Noon program and the station's resident curmudgeon. He was known and respected by farmers throughout the Ozarks.
Larry Dixon (left) and Chuck Hesington were stalwarts of the KYTV Night Desk news program, the most popular late night program in the area. There was great feeling of family among the staff and great fun in doing live telecasts.
