A ride by ferry south on Songefjord from Balestrand takes a visitor to Flam. Along the way, one sees massive waterfalls which are created by the melting of snow at the higher elevations. The ferry has a regular escort of seagulls who forever seeking handouts of snacks from the ferry passengers.
Flam Mountain Railway
At Flam you can get aboard the Flam Mountain Railway an electric train that provides outstanding scenery as it climbs from the fjord 2600 feet to Myrdol. One of the impressive stops along the way is at the site of a thundering waterfall careening down the mountainside. There are also pastoral scenes as valley farm land glides by.
