Shanghai: China's Largest City

Shanghai is China's largest city, its largest port and one of the world's financial centers.

With a population of about 14 million people, it sits at the mouth of the busy Yangtze River. Because of its position it was one of the first ports opened to foreign trade.

It is a city of extremes: new modern buildings and up-to-date commerce and traditional Chinese ways. You can get a feel for some of the quality of Shanghai by going to one of these:
