Suzhou: The City of Gardens

The city of Suzhou, north of Shanghai, is known for its lovely gardens. The lovely Lingering Garden was built between 1522 and 1565. By the early 20th Century it was in a shambles but the government improved it in 1953. Other well-known gardens are the Garden of the Master of the Nets and the Humble Administrator's Garden.

Suzhou is the home to some 6 million people.

Is also known for its silk and silk embroidery industries and the Grand Canal which has helped it develop as an industrial city.
