The Chinese are known for their excellent workmanship in production of cloisonee items. Cloisonee is a type of enamel work where a vessel is first decorated with fine wire decorations. This decoration is then filled in by hand with enamel and fired to produce a hard, shiny surface.

Many beautiful pearls are grown and finished in pearl factories in Beijing. These fresh water oysters can produce from 15 to 20 pearls. They are then cleaned and polished and sold in bulk and/or are assembled into all types of jewelry.
