Kiddie Kove Day Care Center - 918 East Calhoun St.
Kiddie Kove Day Care Center

This building has been in continuous use by the African American community here since only a few years after the 1906 riot and has been legally in the possession of the community since the Board of Directors of the Springfield Colored Hospital Association bought it for $3200 in 1920.

The Calhoun building was used as a hospital, an "old folks" home, and, after black Americans could go to a "segregated" section of the old City Hospital, an after school care center, etc. In 1973 Kiddie Kove moved there from its Boonville location and has been there ever since. Kiddie Kove is a non-profit corporation. The Springfield Colored Hospital Association is still in good standing with the Secretary of State's Office.
