August Koenigsbruck and Charles Boehmer founded a farm machinery, seed and produce firm in 1890. The business, which was both wholesale and retail, sold farm machinery, wagons, buggies and seeds, shipping as far away as New York City. The Springfield Seed Company, which later occupied the building, was organized in 1916 by R. R. Ricketts. It holds Springfield Merchants & Manufacturer's license #1. It was one of the largest seed distributors in Missouri. They began the tradition of decorating the streets for Christmas. The building is now occupied by Thomas Brothers Office Furniture. The stone and brick building was described in 1893 as being "the largest and handsomest trade building in Springfield." Approved: 3/3/86 |
