Ruxton House - 1110 South Main St.
|
|||||
This beautiful 1800 square foot. 11 room Victorian home was built by William R. Ruxton, in 1890. Ruxton, a bookkeeper for the Silsby Stove and Queensware Co., sold his brand new house to Harry P. Silsby of H. D. Silsby Hardware Co. in 1894. Silsby lived at this then new Victorian for only a short while when, in 1898, Thomas M. Dozier, manager of the Happy Home Stove Co., became the proud new owner. After this transaction, the house changed hands numerous times. By 1913, the Harmon family built on a kitchen wing and added a bathroom. Soon after they sold the house to the Hyde family in 1916. Like most previous residents, the Hydes' ownership was short lived. In 1919 the house was passed into the ownership of one Julia Hazel. Miss Hazel made the house her home from 1919 until her death in 1962. Craig and Sheila Graves bought it in 1978 and did a lot of remodeling. Approved: 9/19/83 |
