McCann/Jewell House - 900 East Walnut St.
|
||||||||||
The house, built by Charles McCann, is a fifteen room, two-and-a-half storied structure, which also contains a basement and two fireplaces. The exact date of the construction of the house is unknown; however, it is estimated to have been built between 1894 and 1896. The original owner, Charles McCann, a prominent Springfield businessman, was a partner in the firm Dyer, Massey, and McCann Wholesale Grocers. He was also associated with the Springfield Wagon Company. Another interesting and significant owner of the historical house was Harry S. Jewell, long-time newspaper publisher here.
