Fairbanks House - 1001 East Brower St.

Jonathan Fairbanks arrived in 1866 and became a partner in a sawmill. He operated the sawmill for nine years and became the owner of considerable property between Washington and National Avenues. Mr. Fairbanks served on the school board and became Superintendent of Schools in 1875 and served two years. In 1878 he again became Superintendent and served 34 years. The home was a sanctuary for black families in 1916 after three blacks were lynched on the public square. The home was demolished to provide space for growth for the Ozarks Technical Community College. Approved: 7/18/88 |
