Fellows House - 1000 East Walnut St.
Fellows House

Homer Franklin "Frank" Fellows, jr., was born May 19, 1873 just a few blocks from the house site here in Springfield. He grew up here and went through the eighth grade. He was then sent to the Michigan Military Academy for his schooling. He started working for his father in the Springfield Wagon Factory and took over active management at his father's death in 1894. He married Ethel Eaton on June 26, 1895. Shortly thereafter, it is assumed the Fellows built their home on Walnut Street and resided there until 1928 when they sold the property and moved to the Kentwood Arms for the rest of their lives. Frank Fellows died June 23, 1955 and Mrs. Fellows passed away September 4, 1962. Mr. Fellows was a great lover of circuses and very influential in the building up of our own fairgrounds. The Fellows Lake (the city reservoir north of Springfield) was named after him. He broke ground for it but died before it was completed.
