A wonderful view of the city of Santiago and the Andes is available from the top of San Cristobal Hill. The high point of the city, it is topped with a large statue of the Virgin Mary. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
The Church of San Francisco (at right), located on the cities major street Avenida Bernardo O'Higgins, was originally built in the 16th century. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city. The predominant religion in South America is Catholic, although a guide pointed out it is not "Roman Catholic." | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Located near the Church of San Francisco, and right across from a McDonalds, is Santa Lucia Hill, with an interesting collection of buildings and gardens. It is a popular recreation spot for residents. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Horse racing is a popular pastime for people in Chile. This is a luxurious private race track in Santiago . This photo was taken the morning after a special party was held here for 34,000 young people. That explains the litter. Workers had a huge task before them that day. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
