Crossing from Argentina to Chile
The River Crossing transports visitors cross country from Argentina into Chile via a series of bus and boat rides. Some of the scenery along the way may remind you of the Scandinavian fjords.
Along the River Crossing route one gets a view of the mighty Andes Mountains as well as many of the volcanoes in the area. The volcano at left, Osorno, is one of the best known of the dozen or so in area. From the distance it looks much like Mount Fuji in Japan.
Toward the end of the River Crossing travelers spend some time in two cities: Puerto Varas (above) and Puerto Montt (at left). Puerto Montt was almost completely destroyed by a 9.5 earthquake in 1960.
