Landmark Building - 309 North Jefferson Ave.
Landmark Building

The Landmark Building is still known by many longtime residents as the Frisco Office Building. This structure housed the general offices of the railroad from 1910 to 1966. The building was officially opened to the public on February 2, 1911, as a showplace of modern design. Being of early twentieth century functional design, the building was constructed of brick and steel reinforced concrete. It might be noted that part of the foundation of the building is a remnant left from the former combination Elementary-Senior high school which occupied the grounds. The Landmark Building currently houses many diverse types of offices and companies. Springfield's becoming the cultural, business, and communications center of the area is a direct result of the railroad and its many facilities located here.
