Culley's Cafe - 311 College St.
Culley's Cafe

The original building of J. Kassler, Undertaker, burned in 1875 and was rebuilt in 1878. The business became known as Kassler-Paxson Undertakers which manufactured and dealt in metallic and wooden coffins "with a fine hearse always ready to order." Culley's cafe, the only first class all-night restaurant in Springfield at that time, operated at the location from 1882-1904.

The stone and brick structure has a patterned and corbelled brick entablature beneath the parapet of the facade. The three window openings of the second story have round arched lintels with a stone keystone. There are four arched sash upper over one light lower in each window and stone sills.
