In April, 1909, the Hayden residence and property, located on the northeast corner of Jefferson Ave. and Cherry St. was purchased by the new St. Agnes parish for the site of a new church building. The new church building was completed in the fall of 1919. In 1956 the new diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau was created and St. Agnes became co-cathedral with St. Mary's Church in Cape Girardeau.
