The main portion of the current building was constructed in 1905 for the firm of Cullen Schmook & Stewart. It was named St. Paul's Block in honor of the Methodist church which was formerly located on this site. The building was first occupied by the Blackwell Furniture Company and later by the Heer Furniture & Carpet Co. In 1921 Frank Hermann purchased the Sanford Saddlery Company and located the Hermann Sanford (later to be the Hermann - Brownlow) Saddlery Company at this location. Gilbert Furniture Co. occupied the building from l960-l982. It is now occupied by Wheeler Furniture. Approved: 1/5/87 |
