The building was originally known as the Keet Building and was the only steel frame structure in the city at the time. It was built by the Keet family on the site of the old Merchants National Bank, originally called the National Exchange Bank. It was built by Kate Holland Keet after husband James died. It was purchased during construction by D.J. Landers on Dec. 16, 1914 and was ready for occupancy in May of 1915. The Bank of Commerce was the original occupants of the first floor. The building was purchased by the Heer-Andres Investment Company on Aug. 11, 1963 and given a face lift in February, 1964. The State of Missouri purchased it for use as an office building in 1978.
