Collins/Culler House - 1110 North Jefferson Ave.
Collins/Culler House

The house was constructed by Tom Collins in 1894. He was the weather observer for the U. S. Weather Bureau in Springfield and worked at the Federal Building (City Hall). George Culler and Caroline Schmook married and purchased the house in the early 1900s. George was an engineer and was the Greene County Surveyor between l908-l2 and was the Mayor of Springfield between 1912-14. Caroline lived in the house until sometime in the 1970s.

The house is a one and one-half story house with Queen Anne details. There are projecting gables with chamfered corners on the front and south elevations and at the top of the corners are decorative brackets with drop pendants. The gable fields have sun burst patterns and there are decorative bargeboards There are small gable dormers with decorative framing on either side of the windows. The rear portion of the house appears to be older than the front section having four-over-four light windows and the interior floors have six inch wide planks.
