Greene County - the Early Years

Greene County HistoryA book is entitled History of Greene County, Missouri, written and compiled from the most authentic official and private sources proves fascinating reading and gaves a vivid picture of what this area was like in the first 100 years after its founding.

The book was published by the Western Historical Company in St. Louis in 1883.

There are stories of extraordinary events, of lynchings, of murders, of trouble during the Civil War and of vigilante groups that kept the peace as they saw it. They very graphically spell out the status of race relations at the time.
