Izmir, on the Aegean Sea, is one of the most modern cities in Turkey. It was formerly known as Smyrna. A highlight of the city layout is a large park area in the center, much like Central Park in New York. It is used for a variety of fairs.

Muslims have as a tenet of their religion helping those who are less fortunate. One day a month prosperous Muslims help feed the poor. In this case, a donut manufacturing site was set up on one of the side streets of Izmir. They even served American tourists who must have seemed less than poor to them.
