Gaffga/McCroskey House - 1430 North Clay St.
Gaffga/McCroskey House

The house was built by Thomas Mace, a building contractor, in 1887. Four owners of the house have worked for the Frisco Railroad including B.W. Gaffga who purchased the property in 1921. His widow, Edith, lived in the house until 1973. Bob McCroskey purchased the house in 1975.

The single story house is a good example of a workman's cottage with Queen Anne details. The projecting gable on the front has chamfered corners. At the top of the corners are decorative cutout brackets with drop pendants. The gable field has a decorative pattern of saw tooth, fish scale, and butt shingles. There is a decorative bargeboard. The porch has brick piers with square tapered columns added c. 1920.
