Conkling House - 1337 North Benton Ave.
Conkling House

This Queen Anne house was built by I. N. Smith an insurance salesman in 1893. He had financial difficulties and was forced to sell the house to Aaron B. Conkling in 1899. Mr. Conkling was owner of the Conkling Dry Good Store, 231 East Commercial. The Conkling Family occupied this house until 1955. After the Conkling's sold the house it went through several owners and a state of disrepair. Larry Freeman and Family purchased the property in 1972 and began restoration of the house. Mr. Freeman served on City Council (1974-1979) as Zone 1 Councilman and Councilman-at-large.
