James Woodson House - 1045 West Walnut St.
|
|||||||||||
This house was built ca. 1899 by James A. Woodson and occupied continuously by the Woodson family until 1974. Mrs. Herbert D. Thomasson of Springfield grew up in the house and was the last of the Woodson family to occupy it. Mr. Woodson came to Springfield from Kansas City to become machine foreman at the South Side Shops of the Frisco Railroad. The house was originally numbered 945 until 1948 when the number was changed to 1045. While the angularity and decorative trim observed here identifies it as late nineteenth-century picturesque, this house is distinguishable for the clear articulation of its component parts and compositional unity.
