Originally built for use as an opera house of three stories. The Mansfield Opera House was used for entertainments, civic meetings and Oddfellow Lodge meetings during the 1870s.The two upper floors were added in 1891 when it was occupied by the Rogers and Baldwin Hardware Company. In 1970 the building was renovated and a modern metal front was added to the facade. There is a press metal cornice and entablature above the storefront. The interior still has remnants of some of the original frescoes on the upper floors. It remained in the hands of the Baldwin family until the firm moved in June of 1956. The building was purchased in 1958 by Lester Strauss, president of Ozark Paper and Janitor Supply Company. Approved: 7/22/85 |
