Mt. Eagle Missionary Baptist Church - 1000 East McDaniel St.

Gone but
not forgotten

In the very early 1900's the Rev. 0. D. Bonds founded this Church to serve the Black population located east and slightly south of the Public Square. Many Negroes lived on McDaniel St. from Dollison Ave to Hampton Ave., on Hampton Avenue from Walnut St. north to East Trafficway, and from St. Louis St. to south on McAllister Ave. Many of the Negro men worked at the lime pits and the women worked for the wealthy whites in the homes.
