Abbott/Peabody House - 629 West Walnut St.
|
|||||
The site of this house was a part of the Abbott Subdivision established in 1868, and bounded by Main, College, Grant and West Walnut. This house was built Ca. 1905 probably by James Abbott. It was occupied between 1956-1958 by Mrs. Carrie Peabody who was a daughter of James Abbott and sister to Miss Annie Abbott. Miss Carrie Abbott was a teacher at Campbell School. Although this house presents all of the visual variety of the Victorian picturesque cottage, it has an awkwardly compressed appearance when compared to the gracefully articulated and unified designs of the houses at 1045 and 933 West Walnut. It is, nevertheless, an entirely distinctive structure. Approved: 6/24/83 |
