For many years, the Fourth of July was celebrated by an elaborate fireworks display at Doling Park.

Celebrations were popular.

"I Love a Parade," could have been sung by many Springfieldians over the years because they had developed a taste for parades and celebrations.

Some now have been discontinued but over the years there have been parades and other signs of celebration for Labor Day, Independence Day, Armed Forces Day and Veterans Day. There have been Christmas parades, Homecoming parades, Merchants parades, Shrine parades, Circus parades and a Flower parade.

There were fall festivals, Downtown Springfield on Parade, and other significant celebrations on Commercial Street and, more recently, in other developing commercial areas.

The one and only Flower Parade in 1898.
Labor Day parades used to be a big event; this one was in 1915.
An Armed Forces Day celebration in the 1960's.
A Christmas parade in the early 1950's.
