Richard Nixon has visited Springfield several times. He shown here in 1968 during a rally at the fairgrounds.

Former Alabama Governor George Wallace held a rally on the square during his campaign for president in 1968.

Barry Goldwater was in Springfield in 1964, again at the fairgrounds, during his presidential campaign.

Former president Harry Truman was a frequent visitor because of his connection with the 35th Division. In the 1960s he helped dedicate a new National Guard armory.

Springfield native John Ashcroft has visited the city frequently in his capacity as Missouri Governor, U.S. Senator and more recently as U.S. Attorney General.

Warren Hearnes, as Missouri Governor, and as a prominent Democrat was a regular attendee at Jackson Day festivities here.
