One of the highlights of a tour of Oslo is the Holmenkollen national ski facility. The first ski jump was built in 1892 and has since been modernized 15 times, including its use during the 1952 Winter Olympics. A ski simulator and museum are a part of the site.
The most visited attraction in Norway is the Vigeland Park in Oslo (at right). It features about 200 sculptures in bronze by Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vegeland who also laid out the park. His figures detail the lives of ordinary people. They are not clothed because the sculptor didn't want the figures to be dated, to be eternal.
Trolls are very popular in Norway and throughout Scandinavia. They are mythical creatures that are a part of the folklore of the area. Their likeness are everywhere and troll items are popular with tourists.
The Viking Museum contains Viking-ship discoveries from Gokstad, Osebereg and Tune as well as finds from Viking tombs around the Oslo Fjord. Two well preserved ships come from the 9th Century.
