| You see a different kind of beauty when you visit the Summer Palace outside of Beijing in the dead of winter. You get skate taxi rides instead of boat rides on the large lake. The late afternoon sun provides a beautiful golden glow to the palace and surroundings. In the summer the flowers and greenery provide an escape for city residents just as it did for the emperor in days gone by. | ||||||||

| The Drum Tower not only provides a look at the way in which communication used to take place many years ago, it also provides an excellent view of the city. But the stairs seem to go straight up. | A fun way to get to the Drum Tower and other interesting parts of the old city are via the bike taxis. They're not too warm in winter but they sure don't add to the pollution. | |||||||
