Beijing: Ming Tombs Of the 17 emperors who ruled during the Ming dynasty, 13 are laid to rest in an area 30 miles northwest of Beijing in the Ming Tombs. The site faces Beijing with mountains on three sides. The emperors' concubines were buried with them to comfort them in the next world. The focus of interest in the site is the imposing Palace of Sacrificing. A promenade leading to the central structures is lined with figures of elephants and other animals. |
