Graves House - 2902 East Grand St.

William and Columbia Graves homesteaded 80 acres and built this house in 1882, after emigrating from Tennessee. The Graves hand built the house which has 8 x 8 hand-hewn oak floor joists, oak wall studs comprised of two 4 x 4's placed side by side and cypress lap siding. There are two gabled dormers symmetrically placed on either side of the central doorway. The hip roof on the front porch is supported by Tuscan columns. William died in 1886 of pneumonia but his wife Columbia continued the farm. Four generations of women in the family have maintained the homestead including Columbia's daughter, Mary Alice Lind; granddaughter, Avia Alma Lind. Her great-granddaughter, Beverly Lind Garbee, maintains the tradition of the homestead today.
