Gillioz Theater - 325 Park Central East
|
|||||
The Gillioz Theater opened as one of the most beautiful and modern play houses of the Middle West on October 11, 1926 and continued as a top-run theater into the 1950's. It was built by M. E. Gillioz, contractor and entrepreneur from Monett, Missouri from plans by architects Larsen and Jacobs from United Studios, Inc. of Chicago, Illinois. Ronald and Nancy Reagan attended a movie premier here in 1952. The building is constructed and outfitted around a Spanish Mediterranean theme. The main facade features a large Renaissance style stained glass window at the second floor promenade level with arched windows about and capped with an arched colonnade at the top under a projecting tile roof. The theater is currently being renovated and has been used recently for several presentations. Approved: 7/22/85 |
